  • 2003 gtx sc poor performance and...

I have a 2003 gtx sc, with a grand total of 6 hours or so and all of a sudden there is a distinct lack of performance. Usually it would yank a skier right out of the water, now it just drags em and is accompanied by the overheating beep. Rpms peg when going from a standing start and it is just a dog out of the hole, cavitating pretty impressively. Once on plane the max speed is down about 6 mph as well. If I make sharp turns it will overheat as well. BTW, dealer says wear ring looks "just broken in" and impeller looks fine. Any ideas?

The supercharger clutch is a problem. They have a kit to replace it with one that has ceramic washers. After it's replaced they also recommend using mineral oil in the motor as the new clutch doesn't like the synthetic oil.

What are the classic signs of the supercharger clutch being bad?

You described the problem in your opening post. Lack of performance.

Like Bill say's lack of performance. When you start out the SC spins up and as soon as it starts to work hard the clutch starts to slip. There are some special tools involved in getting it right so it's not an average backyard job.
