• '97 speedster taking on water from bilge pump

I have a 1997 speedster that takes on a good amount of
water. I put the boat on the trailer, checked to make sure the plug was in and
draining everything. I then backed the boat into the water but left it on the
trailer. I noticed that at the bottom of the bilge pump there was water coming
in rather quickly.

I traced the bilge pump line and the hole it blows the
water out of is directly next to the engine flush nozzle which is submerged
while in the water (under the swim deck). Is there some sort of check valve
built into the hose and/or the pump itself that isn't working? I can reverse the
way the pump is supposed to work by blowing water into the hole on the outside
of the boat with only a hose and have it fill up the engine compartment

See attached pictures. Thanks for the help. I just bought
this boat a week ago and the previous owner neglected to mention this serious
problem.

Sometimes the bilge pump hoses get cracks in them. Also, it works like a toilet, the line must go up higher in the hull than the outlet to form a trap.
