  • Tubing w/ 97 GTi

I have a 97 GTi, and last year while tubing with it, it seemed to cavitate when first going? Any suggestions?

First thing to do is check the condition of your impeller, pump vanes, wear ring and the seals on the pump and intake grate. If you have any damage or broken silicone seals, you will cavitate. Your impeller and wear ring need to be in perfect condition, without nicks, chips, pits, scrapes, etc. Make sure you don't have any leading edges of the pump vanes that are broken or chipped. Make sure the silicone is not blown out of the pump or mount anywhere - if so, remove the parts, clean it all off and reinstall with fresh silicone. It's very important to get all the old off before reinstalling. Use 'The Right Stuff' by Permatex on the pump cavity, and regular marine grade silicone on the intake grate/ride plate. Coat all bolts with Loctite.
