951 top-end rebuild question

I am getting ready to start re-building and had a question about the head surface.
There seems to be some rough surface area close to the combustion chamber, I believe due to salt.
Is this something to worry about? Can a head be re-surfaced, without changing compression?
Hopefully the pic will help.
BTW- there are 36 needle rollers on each wrist pin, not 34 like the shop manual says.

You need the head remachined - yes that surface is critical for the gasket to seal, but your domes are pitted from debris damage. Every little sharp bump creates a hotspot for detonation.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

Bombardier has a tool that makes installing cageless bearing very easy. If you are interested I'll get the pn.Dick Bell

You can carefully do it by spreading a film of grease on the inside of the rod, and laying the rollers on it, but the tool makes it a breeze.SBT Tech Support is here to help with your problems.

........ and if you're missing one DO NOT re-assemble the engine before you find it.
It is most likely under the Crank Journals/Webs on the bottom of the lower case. I made a tool with a small magnet epoxied to the end of a flexible Tie Wrap to scoot under the Crank to grab those. Works well........DAVID_HX_XP_RX-DI

i do agree that the pin should be in the kit , it would make it more simple for the end user not to worrie about it , also i have put many caged pins in and have none fail . even the ski i repair that had caged in them the berings were always in good shape . on the other hand ive picked out many cageless bearings out of OEM motors . one very important thing to do on all 951s is to wait for the motor to cool then run it and fog it some before letting it sit . they tend to pull water from the exhust into the cyls if left hot and that will rust the pins { you know what happins then }PRIDE IN SERVICE

OK....just got the head back from being re-machined. The shop only re-surfaced it, the domes are as they were. They said .020 was taken off the surface, and I should set squish at .055 or greater. I'm running pump gas (89 octane).
My questions are;
Is .055 (or greater) squish ok for 89 oct? A 6-hole base gasket came off, and I was going to use a 5-hole for re-assembly (came with the re-build kit)
When I install cylinders and head and torque up, then measure squish, can I still use the same head and base gaskets?
If a 6-hole gasket doesn’t get me where I need to be, what are my other options for changing squish?
Thanks - Tom
