hey nov785, i didnt know there was another JD grate out there. oh great, another grate to throw into the mix! ill just ignore the Ultrac reference since you cant find em. I thinkin ill end up with the polaris/r&d rate for now. hell, ive yet to hear a BAD thing about it, and its 30 bucks......i can use the money i save towards something else like the OP ride plate and sponsons, or maybe some flame arrestors. oh boy, now i got lots of more questions but really, are sponsons and arrestors worth it? what about pump wedges and reeds? oh, and the adjust a thrust looks **** cool!

I forgot jd made the less agressive grate. I found a Solas dual wing for 20, and liked it so much that i sold my big wing r&d to a guy with a late model SLX1200. I let him try both the small and the large for a couple weeks, he chose the large. He is just getting into races, and for him, the big wing hooked up better. you cant make speed when you aint got traction. sponsons will help depending on the water conditions you ride in.
Ever been at WOT and felt the boat pull to right or left over chop? thats the sponson catching water and slowing you down. most afer market sponsons profiles slice through the water better, reducing this darting. I'd go for the ccs airbox top instead of the vortex, but i would take the time to match the airbox opening to the carb top, put in primers, etc. Then again, the vortex filters will match the opening, and you dont have to get out the grinder.
you already have a 4 deg pump wedge, a 6 might get you a little more top end, but it may turn the slx into a porpoising sack of crap, that you have to keep trimmed way down. see if you can borrow one first to try it. getting late, talk about reeds tomorrow.

Bruce the 6* wedge will make it even more of a buking bronco with the stock plate. With an OP plate it works great. I have been doing it for years on both my previous SL750 and on my current SLX780.

On the filter to carb matching thing---anyone heard of these...http://www.lako.com/sl1050.html

Lots of good info reguarding the "Stea;lth Stacks" as well as the OEM arrestor vs. no arrestor.

oh yeah, i almost forgot to ask, will parts such as grates, plates, sponsons, and engine parts made for other polaris boats, such as the pro1200, pro785, sl750, etc. work on mine. will any of the trick engine parts made for the virage and pro1200 work on mine?

It is on the page you just listed I am sure Dennis Kirk www.denniskirk.com has one not to mention all the typical Polaris sites, Hot Seat, LCP Thrill Factory, Chopper City etc.. I thought the Pro 1200/785 has the R&D/Polaris grate as standard equiptment?

hey did anyone else look at the LAKO page? it looks pretty interesting, my 1200 has that same problem too right? but 85 bucks for 3 aluminum tubes? thats rediculous, my friend could make them on a lathe for me for nothing but the cost of materials.

Now you'r talkiing!!! If you give me some dimensions I have access to Solid Works and could draw them up for you, then your friend just plugs it in Master Cam and they can be made. My fee? A set for my SLX of course :D :D
