  • Oil Injection block off kit? why?

I am taking the oil injection off my old 92 650SL and have been told I need a block off kit. Why can't I just remove the drive shaft from the oil pump and put the pump back on (to plug the hole), cap all the lines and intake nipples, and save the cost of the kit? That shaft comes out quite easily. Thanks in advance for your comments.

In that case, the only advantage is the less chance of an air leak. Capping fittings and hoping the pump doesn't crack or develop a leak is taking a much bigger chance than just putting the right cover on. You are risking a $1000+ in damage for a $15 part.

Thanks for that info. Not quite sure why the pump would be more likely to crack or spring an air leak now, than during its last 10 years of use. And just how thick is the block off plate in the kit? also - What is provided in the kit to block off the intake nipples below the carbs? Thanks.

The plate is about 2mm. The kit has rubber caps for the injector fittings.
