  • pump/engine alignment and shims

    1996 SLT 780

When I installed my new SBT motor, I had a hard time getting it aligned properly. Did it mostly by feel of the pump shaft mating with the coupler. Your instruction said "take it to the dealer to get it aligned", but that is not an option where I live. I greased the shaft but the coupler still runs hot to the touch. Polaris does not offer an alighment tool that I know of. Where might I get one, and where can I get SS shims?

Shim packs are available at almost every dealer, or you can make your own from thin stock. The coupler is supposed to get very hot!

Is the so called "alignment tool" necessary to get a decent alignment, or was my techniqe of "move the motor around until the pump seems to fit" OK?

It's not nearly as critical on a Polaris as it is a Sea-Doo. Your way is usually just fine.
