When you say you have a "limited" 96XP, do you mean it has a pipe and the other modifications that make it an IJSBA limited racing boat?
What parts do you have that ake it a "limited" ?
Your rpms are way down for a 96XP with a 17x22 swirl impellor in it.
Going to an impellor that is that has that much more pitch is usually not a way to increase the rpm, even though you can run a slimline with a bit more pitch in some cases.Bill O'Neal WCM

A stock boat can spin a 17/22 swirl 6900 rpm. I would say you have an impeller just the opposite of what my brother had. His impeller was purchased new from scat trac, stamped 17/22 (swirl) and he had NO problem at all spinning it to 7150, the rev. limiter and I could easily catch him on top end w/ my 17/22 swirl turning 6950. Same set ups. He ended up sending the prop out to Scat trac for a 1 degree increase on the leading and trailing edges to make a 18/23 out of it as Skat trac called it. Now turns 6950 +/-. I know that there is something wrong w/ this impeller since we also have a 17/23 and it turns 6800 +/- 50.
The good thing about your impeller, you know what rpm you can turn it. You can send it out to a prop bender w/ a good description of what it is doing and what you want it to do. A good bender can take it from there and tell you what you really have and what it is you are getting back. :D
