  • Pro X or WSM performance pistons

Simple question, which is better and is it worth the extra $20-30 for the Pro X pistons?

Definitely Pro-X over WSM. We use our own which are just like OEM.

Ok, thanks. I would just buy from you guys but you don't sell an 82.25 piston.

      Thanks.

      Just curious, whats the difference?

Re: Pro X or WSM performance pistons

Thanks for the replies, I guess I will go with the Pro X. One more question about the differences, Is there any performance differances or is it just build quality/materials. Both companies say they are designed to OEM specs except the WSM Performance Platinum Series.

Re: Pro X or WSM performance pistons

I tried WSM's one time in a Polaris motor. The ring lands on the piston broke in an hour running time....... Never used them again. Pro-X makes excellent high silicone content cast aluminum alloy pistons that have always given me good service. I have used several sets of SBT pistons too without problems.

What about Wiseco pistons are they any good? being forged arenīt they appropriate for modified engines?

Re: Pro X or WSM performance pistons

Quality wise, Wiseco are fine. User-wise, they are usually not. It takes someone familiar with them to set the motor up, with the appropraite larger clearances, and a user familiar with them to know how long to appropriately warm the engine up before doing any hard riding. Otherwise you get a nice hard seize.

I only recommend them to experienced builders/tuners/riders, NOT a recreational ski.

Re: Pro X or WSM performance pistons

Forged pistons are excellent high performance pistons for use in a racing motor.

Cast aluminum pistons are excellent pistons to use in a recreational motor that needs to run for hundreds of hours with tighter clearances, Quietier operation and less piston rattle.
