I have a set of buckshots on my XP (95 800) that I am rebuilding they are actually jetted for a factory pipe and were run with a stock pipe(woops) anyway my question is should I ditch them in favor of some new novi's or just rebuild them? they are on the old v-tech manifold which I know a lot of people had probs with? thanks. (either way im putting a spec 2 on it)

Re: Buckshot or Novi
there is no comparison. if you have a set of Novi, throw the buckshot carbs in the trash. if you don't have a set of novi's, throw the buckshot carbs in the trash anyway and find some novi carbs. you won't have to tune every five minutes and your ski will thank you.
used - maybe Bill at watercraftmagic.com or brian at dunnavants.com or wait on ebay to turn some up but you can't be sure what you get there.
heck start the new year off right, find your credit card and call tim or go to novi.com and order a nice set of f booster 44's for stock or 46's for limited+ :emoticont

Re: Buckshot or Novi
FYI, some of the fastest 800 superstocks are using Buckshots, although I would still recommend Novi's, as they are just as fast and less of a problem to get parts for and for tuning.
The Buckshots that you have on that V Tech manifold, could be adapted to a regular intake manifold, with conventional linkages.
If you can locate some used Novi's for a decent price, they are very good carbs.
I have a set of Ed Brazina modified/Novi carbs that came off of a 787 superstock motor if you are interested.Bill O'Neal
Re: Buckshot or Novi
Yes - the buckshots are good for someone - especially if you travel and have to tune anyway. I think at one time you could get Miller mod on the BRM's ; so obviously the have some merit. But man can they be tempermental if you ride spring - fall; assuming you have seasons where you live.
I hated my buckshots and lub my Novi carbs. I think my buckshots hated me and the factory pipe.

Re: Buckshot or Novi
Yes the older Buckshots were very tempremental. The newer ones worked much better. Yes, Mel still modifiy's the Buckshots.
Because Buckshot quit making carbs, and the fact that even those carbs need modifying, and the fact that Novi's work as good if not better right out of the box, I only suggest Novi's to anyone looking to build a racing machine and those rec riders who can afford Novi's. But, not everyone can afford Novi's. Buckshots can work if you do it right and seem to be readily available on the used market for much less money, I still have to answer the questions about them.Bill O'Neal
Re: Buckshot or Novi
While the subject has been put forward.. The older style buckshots I found to give great acceleration, but went out of tune easily. Bill my question is... can you still get the mods done to these carbs?... and if so, is the mod simply the addition of bombsight?
Other than that they would make good throttle bodies? hahaha

Re: Buckshot or Novi
HydroX,
If you have the Buckshot carbs with the standard Mikuni needles and seats, you have the upgraded carbs. If you want to make them work even better, I can have Mel Miller remachine the bombsites and the air horn. This modification drops the detonation in the cumbustion chambers by about 50%.Bill O'Neal
Re: Buckshot or Novi
Just to clarify Bill.... I have a box full of old buckshots ( 46`s ). These are the ones available with the V tech manifold and run standard mikuni jets and needle and seats, Purple tops, a gold finger like atomising tube and are made from mikuni SBN style carb.
Price for the work per carb?
