  • Technical question-800 head

My SS 800 is assembled using an 8 hole base gasket in order to get the port height as high as possible. The problem that I run into is that now, most heads that I try to run the squish clearance is too large. I'm wondering if it is an 'acceptable' practice to machine off the squish relief (normally about .010" on most dome designs) to get the squish clearance back down. As long as you don't cut into the squish band diameter, will this generally cause any detonation problems or will this be ok??

    Thanks

Yes, it is perfectly fine to mill the gasket surface of the head (and dome, if you have removable domes) whatever amount you need to get the squish clearances you desire.
