  • Paint / Gel Coat

Does anybody have any good reference material (web or otherwise) for how to repaint and fix the gel coating on the bottom of a jet ski??

I have a '96 Yamaha WaveRaider 760 and after years of good use, it's time to do some repair. There is a section of the hull where all of the paint and gel coat has come off and the fiberglass is exposed. I've never done this before, but really want to try to do it.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

        OK, one more stupid question...

What's the best way, or the most reasonable way to actually be able to get to the bottom side of the hull??

The area that I need to re-coat is right at the bottom. I don't know that I have the appropriate room to do it on the trailer. Nor do I think that I accidentally want to mess up the trailier either.

Yeah, I heard it already from others... Stop beaching it...

Pull the eninge, drain the fluids and make some osrt of stand so you can flip it upside down and work on it.

Yep,thats the only way to do a really good job.Flip it over.

Just got done doin the bottom of my 93-Blaster.And I can tell ya,its not an overnite job.I spent probably a month truing, prepping and painting mine.I used an epoxy primer, and Imron for the finish coat.3 coats of primer, and 4 coats of paint, and lots of sanding in between.

            Have fun...

Oh,btw...I pulled the seat and top hatch off of mine, and used the trailer as a stand.Worked out great for me.
