  • Top End vs. Bottom End, and other topics...

Hello all, I am a little new to the world of "real" skiing. I have rebuilt a few motors over the years (mostly diesels) but I have a rather ridiculous question. The top-end referred to by SBT I am assuming is the block, pistons, cranks, head and carb. The bottom end is the shaft, pump, impeller, etc. Am I correct?

I have an old JS 440 (1978 I know, I know, I like the dinosaurs), anyway I would like to make it run to learn more balance, I haven't ridden a stand-up but I've been able to do a crouching flip in my 1989 WR 500. Just to make everyone feel better, I bought a 2002 GTI this year to play on.

Last question, what is the best place to get started on the amatuer circuit (other than the IJSBA in Baltimore or close, I am a new member to the IJSBA, but want some specifics if anyone knows).

Thanks all, look forward to hearing from you.

The Top end reffers to the head, pistons and cylinders. A top-end kit means parts to rebuild the top-end of an engine - pistons, rings, gaskets and bearings.

Bottom end refers to the cases and crank (and rods).
