  • checking engine air/water

I just replaced thecylinder and three pistons on a 1100zxi. I believe I had an oil pump problem which caused the first piston to give but want to make sure. Is there a way to check for air leaks and or water ingestion with the engine running? If so, how is this done properly. The engine seems to run fine but have not had it on the water yet since rebuild. 120 psi in each cylinder, idles with water hose out of water at 1500 rpm's and I am running pre mix of 32:1 ratio. I want to make sure I covered all possible avenues before returning to the water and burning up another cylinder and piston.

I would mix 25 to 1 If you just rebuilt the motor for about 4 tanks aprox 10 hours run time untill the rings bed in. If its idling at 1500 rpm out of the water if think that thats too low I think it should be at about 3000 which will drop too about 1500 when it is in the water. You could pull the plugs and see if there is water on the plugs as it would normally be visable on the plug.
