HELP! Question about 900ZXi flywheel seal

I am in the process of putting my '96 900ZXi motor back together, but I have an urgent question about the flywheel seal. The flywheel side of the seal has a spring around the sealing surface and the crank side had what appears to be a groove for a spring, but no spring. Is there supposed to be a spring on both sides? See the picture below. Thanks for the help!

Looks like I got the direction backwards according to the parts illustration. The rubber side looks like it goes towards the crank. Unfortunately I did not getto see how it cam off, as the person that rebuilt my crank removed it and did not put it back on.

A call to the dealer this morning confirmed a spring should be present on both sides. Fortunately, a local bearing supplier carried a seal with the correct size spring for me to cannibalize and therefor avoid a trip to the stealer.
