  • 1100STXDI No Fire @ Plugs

A friend of mine and I were riding yesterday, both on 2002 1100 STXDI's, when after jumping a wake, his ski stalled. It acted as if it was flooded at first, but then did nothing more than crank afterwards. We pulled the plug to see if they were fouled but looked fine. We also cranked it over with the plugs against the block to check for spark and saw nothing. Any ideas before it makes a trip back to the dealer? Could there be a fault that needs to be reset? We also tried the main ignition on-off routine but did not disconnect the battery, could that hold a fault that will restrict ignition?

    Thanks,
    Joe

Besides checking for a low battery or loose wire, there's not much you can do without the dealer computer.

Did he get check engine icon or an error on the display? If not, no error has been stored. Check the fuses and the connectors at the EMM. The ignitor is part of the EMM (engine management module). The cost to replace the EMM is ~$1K, if out of warranty.

Thanks for the responses. There was no error or check engine warning. Our guess is that a wake jump jarred something loose. We will look for loose connections in the EMM vicinity.

        Thanks,
        Joe
