  • Impeller: Ferrous or Non-Ferrous

    I have a 2001, 1100 STX D.I.
I had the bearings go out under warranty.
They replaced the impeller and other parts.
Last couple of rides I noticed that it sounded like when the bearings went out before.
Yesterday, right from the begining of the ride the symptoms of cavitating.
When I checked the clearence, I used a feeler guage attached with tape on the end of a magnet. I found out that the magnet was strongly attracted to the impeller and shaft.
I thought that the 1100 STX D.I., had stainless steel impellers?
    I had around .8 to 1.mm clearence.
I just had this replace around 30 hours ago.
    What do you think?

They are supposed to be SS, can't say I ever put a magnet to it. That clearance is out of spec, you want .25 - .5mm for a new install, if not less.
