  • Bleed oil pump

I'm going to replace the oil pump on my 1996 Kawasaki ZXi1100 as a preventive measure.
How do I bleed all the air from the system?
Also is there anything else that should be replaced at this time to be sure I don't trash the engine from no oil?

There is a screw or bolt you back off after you have all lines in place and the tank full.

You want to get all the air out of the supply line to the pump.

I would also change all oil lines out for new ones at the same time. Change the ones from the tank to the oil pump and the oil pump to carb.

Mix the 1st tank of gas at 40:1 for minaral oil or 50:1 for synthetic oil since the oil lines from the pump to the carbs will be dry and you need to provide oil to the engine during this time. It will smoke a lot more during the 1st tank but won't hurt anything other than a possible fouled spark plug.

It will also let you check the new oil pump to make sure it is pumping oil corectly. After you get done with the first tank of gas after having a full oil tank make sure it used @1-2 Quarts.

The only way to be 100% sure your oil system wont fail is to go to pre-mix.
