How to make a 1100 STX faster?

Our stock '00 GTX turns around 6950 rpm and will do about 62 mph (gps).
Our stock '98 STX 1100 turns a little better than 7100 rpm yet will only go about 56 (gps).
I am assuming that the difference is in the impeller. Am I thinking right with that?
How can I get this ski with a bigger engine that is already turning 150 or more rpm to keep up with the SD? If I go with a different impeller (or have the stock one repitched) will it bring the rpm down too far to help?
I'm not intrested in making a racing boat out of it just basicly looking for the eaisest & least expensive way to get the Kawi to run with the Doo. Oh yea, I don't want to loose the reliability that it has now

The impeller is part, yes, but the hull design is most of it. You cannot compare models like that, it's apples and oranges. There aren't alot of Kawi 1100 mods out there that just bolt on. You would spend more than the skis worth to get another 7-8 MPH out of it.

smaller and lighter 130 hp XPL?

Weight is NOT the determining factor. They have a completely different hull design, as I stated above. The XP KILLS a GTX out of the hole also - you can easily prop an XP to gain 2-3 MPH or simply change the exit nozzle diameter - but then it'll be as slow as a GTX out of the hole.

Top speed is a combination of hull design, pump design, weight, engine HP, torque, impeller, etc. There is no one magic specification you can make comparisons against model to model, it's that simple.

GroupK's site says a stock 130 hp '00 GTX does 57 to 58 and the XPL 60-62.
That sounds about right to me. If my riding buddies 130 hp GTX can do 62 my
stock GP1200 is doing 65 and my stock '96 XP can do 62.5. 57 for the GTX
57.5 for the XP and 60 for the GP I think is more accurate.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll just give up on making the STX faster since I don't want to put a signifigant amount of money in it.

To address '99gp1200's questions.
I don't know why / how it (the GTX) runs as it does but, according to my gps, it does run 62. It has done this on several occasions. Usually in VERY light chop (ripples really), 1/2 tank fuel and 1 150 -170 lb rider. I will double check it again this weekend using 2 or 3 different gps units.
It IS A DOG out of the hole but has enough power to pull a 175 lb slalom skier up from a deep water start w/o a lot of trouble.
