  • CV Carb Rebuild on 02 Kawi 1200 STX-R

Hey, has anyone out there had much experience rebuilding these CV Carbs on the Kawasaki 1200 STX-R. I called the dealer and he said that they don't carry a rebuild kit for the 1200 STX-R CV carbs and neither does SBT. :emoticonr The dealers said you have to buy the individual components needed. He said that the diaphrams alone are $50 for 1 carb. I'm not sure I even need to rebuild my carbs, just thought it would be prudent since I am putting a new SBT engine in after what appears to be a lean detonation on my #2 cylinder. Even if I don't "rebuild" the carbs I do feel I need to disassemble, inspect and clean them just for good measure. What parts should I NOT reuse when I reassemble them. Hopefully I won't need any diaphrams. I keep reading about clogged filters so that's what I'm primarily looking for in #2 carb. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer me.

The dealer is correct. You can expect to pay about $100 per carb on the parts - replace everything unless you like burning down engines. We're sorry there are no kits, but that's just the way it is.

Just wondering why aren't there any aftermarket kits available? Couldn't you guys build a kit to sell?

Because there is very little relative demand for them - they were only used on a few models and none of them in great quantities. It's not worth the considerable R&D time and money to make kits.
