  • 900zxi not getting spark

My carbs are getting fuel, sorry, my mistake

My ski was runnig great all day then, after taking a break, it would not start again. I took out all plugs to see if it gets spark, they do get intermident spark, I thought it may just be the plugs are fouled so I tried a new plug, still an intermident spark. I checked the main fuse and all the connections around the spark plug wire areas. The engine compartment is really really clean, no water that I see so I don't think the wires got wet or corroded.

Any suggestions as to what the problem may be and what I should look at next?

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Re: 900zxi not getting spark

i would try checking your ignition switch ( takes the orange key) sometimes they go out and lock in both positions giving an intermitint spark. I had the same problem on my 900 zxi.

Do you know how to check it? The lights and gas guage work, the trim works.

      Thanks,

if your lights come on the key switch is working , you will need to get a OEM service manual for that ski , pull the electric box apart and check it out many fill with water .

What do you do once you remove the stator cover and find that it was full of water / gunk? This seems to be the case on my 1100.

The gear reduction / bendix is froze solid. I've got that sitting in a vat of penetrating oil. Looks like theres no hope for that baby. As for the stator, Do you clean the rest of these parts and re-use them or are the scrap now?

            Re: 900zxi not getting spark

I dropped the ski off at the shop and the guy started it. Maybe the ride to the shop bounced something around so now it is making contact electrically.

Since this occurred, does this now narrow what the problem might be?

Hopefully it won't start for the mechanic since electricaly problems are so difficult to diagnois, especially when the ski is starting.

            Thanks,

              Re: 900zxi not getting spark

its probably the red stop button
this happened to one i serviced.
you had to put the key on and then flick the stop button a few times.
it looked like it was all the way out but you still had to mess with it.
guages would still work and ski would crank but no spark untill you flick the button

Yes, he did it manually without the lanyard, but so did I, although he cranked it twice as long as I usually would with the choke on.

Thats strange it will not spark even though the switch appears to be working. Thanks for your help.
