  • 98 SXi Pro, starter solenoid clicks

I just pulled her out of storage, replaced the battery, and it won't turn over, the fuse is fine, the solenoid clicks, but the motor doesn't turn.
If I short the two terminals on the front of the control box, she spins up fine.

Are there connectors inside the control box that could be corroded?

    what does anyone suggest?

    Thanks, Delan.

    Update

I tapped the control box continuously with a mallet whilst trying the starter, she's now starting on the button!

Please God let there be waves tomorrow, Please God let there be waves tomorrow, Please God let there be waves tomorrow.

I would look inside for loose connections then...It would suck to try and "tap" the control box in big chop...

the two posts you jumped across, are actually the posts on your starter solenoid/relay. typically if it won't start, and you "jump" it here, your relay is bad. i think yours may have been stuck, and by hitting the box with a hammer you jarred it. personally i wouldn't trust it. it are going to the surf, take a buddy with you, just in case. ( wich you always should anyway).

        good luck. zig
