  • locking up starter

I recently installed a new sbt motor in an 2002 ultra 150. went to start for first time and turned over 8 to 10 times then it quit. checked and had 12volts on starter so I thought starter is bad , pulled out starter ,took it apart and the insides were destroyed. Installed a new starter , turned over 8 to 10 times and the starter did the same thing. what is causing this? would being out of time cause this? i lined up the dots on the gears just like the installation guide said. Please Help!!!

    Re: locking up starter

By torn up... Do u mean the armature and rotor or the drive gear?

I am sure you hand turned the engine to check it out before you installed it. Out of timing would not destroy a started but excessive torque overload or wrong voltage would..
    This is getting expensive...

you will need to make sure that the one way clutch is in the right direction and that is not damaged.
