  • Crankshaft seal, do I have to split the case?

    Hello

The crankshaft seal leaked oil to my stator and smoked it. It happened to BOTH of my 2001 STX DI 1100's on the same day. It was a bad day!!

    I pulled the engine.

    1. Do I have to split the case and if so,
    2. Do I have to remove the head and pistons? OR
    3. Can I remove just the lower case portion (the half that is fastened to the engine mounting tray)?

The cost of buying two new (O.E.M) Kawasaki stators is a killer.

    1. Are there any aftermarket stators that are of high quality?
    2. Would you put a used (salvage) stator on your ski?

    Thanks Folks!
    Charlie

You will have to reseal the case halves when installing the seals, its going to be difficult to just pull the bottom and install seals. I dont recommend it. No aftermarket company that I'm aware of sells complete staters that are a direct replacement for o.e.
