  • Blown Cylinder

I have a 2002 Kawasaki 900 STS that I recently purchased with a blown cylinder. I have pulled off the cylinder head and taken some pictures the cylinder head, piston, and cylinders. I am new to rebuilding this engine as was looking for some guidance on what I should look out for when attempting to fix this engine. At what point is a replacement more cost effective than fixing.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Blown Cylinder

Looks like a ring might have broke. The head cant be reused in that condition. When you tear it down check the crank real well for damage to the bearings, if there is any question about the cranks condition then dont re use it.

      Re: Blown Cylinder

I appreciate the info. I pulled the cylinders off and examined the crankshaft. The bearings are damaged on that cylinder. Looks like it's time for a rebuild.
