Case Drain, Blown Top End ?

Could a case drain not sealing be the cause of burning up the top end on a 91 KAWA 650 ? :(

what do u mean by not sealing? is there a dime size whole in the halves? can you be more specific,

A cable pull opens a aprox 1/2' hole at the bottom of the case, the rubber seat was not aligned with the hole and allowed air into the case.
