I notice there are a few 900 owners here. I thought I would see if anyone could point me in the right direction. I am the second owner of this ski, and the speedo has never worked. The first owner never bothered to have it fixed under warranty! I know it is not accurate but I would still like to have it working. The speedo does not move when it is in the water and the paddle wheel is intact. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It's either a problem with the wheel itself, the wiring connection, the computer or the gauge. The test the wheel itself, turn the ski on and spin it by hand, or better yet, with compressed air, a fan, hairdryer, whatever will get it spinning. If you get a reading, it's worn and needs to be replaced. If you don't get a reading, test the wiring connections one by one.

I had the same problem with my 95' 900 when purchased new in 1996. I took it in under warranty and they replaced the whole paddle wheel assembly. To this day it is working just fine. I would suspect that the paddle wheel assembly is bad. To my knowledge there are only 2 wire connectors for the speedo, one back by the electrical box in the engine compartment and one up under the gauge housing. You might want to check the connections, but I doubt that they are loose. Replacing the paddle wheel assembly looks to be very easy. All you should have to do is unplug the connector in the engine compartment, remove hull fitting for wiring, and remove paddle wheel assembly from back of hull. To make things easier I would remove the ride plate and maybe the pump (depends on where you can get to the hull fitting with it on).

I am on my 3rd paddle wheel on my 1995 900ZXi and it seems as if this one quit. I'm going to give up on these things soon. I have never heard of anything else but the paddle wheel failing. You can test it with a 12 volt DC power source and a DC voltmeter. Connect the Negative of the power source and the meter to the sensor's Black/White wire. Connect the positive of the power source to the Red/White and the meter positive to the sensor's Green/Red. The meter should go up and down a few times per revolution of the sensor's paddle wheel.RadioDave Rosenbloom
