• 750SXI with bogging low end

All right guys.. need your experteezes on this one. I took my 750SXI out today after I replace the ignitions system ( stator, msd enhancer, msd coil) and now it runs like crap. from idle to 1/2 throttle, theres nothing, just runs like it's in idle and ready to bog, but if I fether the throttle, it will finally kick in with arm pumping accleration after about 5 sec or so. So the way I was riding today, I would feather the throttle and when the power kicks in, I would not let go. If I let go, I would have to do the same routeen again to get it going again. My question is, will I need to re-jet the carbs with the enhancer? or is it just my carbs need rebuilding? or maybe something else that I don't know. You see, the things that I don't understand is that, the hi end power is there. very strong, arm pulling but to get there is the problem. My other thoughts is that do I need the advance plate and the retard module that MSD said it's a must for my ski when using the enhencer.
Thanks,
Mike

Somehow I think this is RPM/ignition related, not carb...sorry, no insight here, ever used that system.

Thanks Bryan.. That's what I'm thinking too, cause before the new ignition system, it ran perfact. I just can't believe the carbs would go wrong right after installing all this you know.

Hi;
Your thoughts were right on target. Without the 7 degree advance plate, the Enhancer timing curve is milder than the stock SXi ignition curve.

OEM ignition timing for dual carb 750's (750 Xir, Zxi, Sxi, Sxi Pro, STX)

13 degrees Starting
21 degrees @ around 3000 rpm
16 degrees @ around 6000 rpm

With the 7 degree advance plate the 750 Enhancer curve is:

21 starting
23 @ about 2,000 rpm
19 @ about 6,000 rpm

Don't use the retard module unless you're running an aftermarket pipe and a higher than stock compression ratio.

Dan

Hey Dan,
Sorry to bug you. But have you ever run your SXI with the MSD enhencer without the advance plate? How did it run? Was it as bad as the way I discribed mine? I hope the advance plate will fix my problem when I recieve it tomorrow. Is 7 degrees that much of a difference that will make a ski that was running like crap and almost bogging at the low end to running great?
Thanks,
Mike

Hi;
No, I have never tried running an Enhancer on an SXi without the 7 degree advance plate, mainly because I know that if the advance plate isn't used, the engine will run poorly.

A change of 7 degrees in ignition advance will make a huge difference engine performance.

By-the-way, I see you're in West Hartford. I grew up in Newington / New Britain. Where do you ride? On the river?

Dan

Hey Dan,
Thanks for the info. Just to let you know, I'll probibly be bugging you a lot about SXI's performance issues. You should charge me consulting fees. Ya, I ride on the river by Rocky Hill area. I ride with bunch of stand-up riders there. Too bad most of them have SJ's and FX1's but I'll never switch. Just love the way the SXI's handles in turns (leg drags and a** in the water) I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Where do you live now? Come back and visit sometimes, we'll go riding and kick some JS's a**.
Thanks again,
Mike

Has any one ever try the MSD Enhancer on their SXI? I tried, didn't work good with no bottom end then I got the advance plate and retard module still no bottom end, then just the enhancer and advance plate, little better but still not as good as the OEM CDI. IT's good that Factory Direct has a 30 days money back, so I returned it. My ski si pretty much stock except for a set of aftermarket F/A and primer kit. Has anyone had better luck with it then me?

Thanks,
Mike
