I have a js550. Motor turns over and am getting spark and fuel but will not fire. My question is could this be the timing? I think the compression is good but have not checked. Have a parts boat and swapped cdi with same result. I get absolutely no fire even when pouring fuel straight into carb. Please help.

Your probibly getting a weak spark. I had a problem like that on my 750 SXI, weak sparks but don't fire. I found out it was a bad stator. Since you swap the CDI, I would check the stator and the ignition coil, but do a compression test first. I don't think you timing could be adjusted unless your flywheel sheer the key.
