I would be extremely careful when checking for spark. I never "hold" the plug in my hand when checking, I hear theres a bit of power during a spark :D . Place the plug (still in the boot) anywhere on the motor to ground it and then crank it. You can also damage your CDI if you dont ground the plug. Hope this helps.
holding the plug was a last resort to see if there was anything. tried arcing to ground prior. ive been reading that stators can go bad overnight, any truth to that? as previously stated, never a problem with this boat, it ran and ran last time out.
