  • 97 sltx 1050 problems

    i have had the ski out of service for 2 years. i took it out and it seems to be running on only 2 cylinders or something. It takes off slow and only tops out at 35 mph at 5000 rpms. the 1 and 2 cylinders are scolding hot and 3 s just mildly warm. What are my options? I already replaced the plugs and tried to reset the system be dsconnecting the battery. I also have cut the fuel electrical line to try and bypass the possible limp mode. Dont know what to do next.

    I'd do a compression check 1st, just to make sure the motors OK. assuming compompression is OK 120+ psi in each cyl, then prolly the reason #3 is cooler is coz its getting not enough spark, or too much gas. check the spark 1st. hook the thing up to #3 and ride it and watch the lite. make sure its sparking all the time. If it is, then you might need a carb clean - leaking needle valve.

      Give your plug wires a quick trim and screw them back on. Sounds like #3 isn't getting spark.

        I betcha you got a carb that needs rebuilt, if not all of them. On my 750, I could only go 5200 rpm and it was a bad pump diaghragm in the center carb. My sign was the plug was covered in a little clean oil. Looked like it hadn't been firing, but I had spark. Just wasn't getting gas, the diaghragms had gotten hard.

          I am leaning towards the possible carb problem. is it hard to do a carb cleaning. i have cleaned carbs on a lawn mower but nothing else. the reason the ski was out of service was because of a whole in the shell. water flooded the ski but almost positive did not reach the carbs or cylinders. #3 when checked last week had a few tiny drops of fluid but I think that was just gas. My guess would be the carbs need cleaned. I dont thnk they have ever been cleaned. please advise and possibly point me to some carb cleaning directions
