  • More Starter Problems SL650

Got the starter off and tore it apart. Found the problem, the brush assembly was busted where it connects to the outer case. That explains why sometimes it would work and other times not. Can I get the the brush assembly or do I have to buy a whole new starter? Need it quick to make the long weekend. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Dan

There are 4 brushes. 2+ and 2 -. They need to be opposite of each other. If so, and it looks like it is, try soldiering it to the post. You will need to inspect it. If it looks like it was soldiered in the first place, just soldier it back. If it looks broken, you may have a problem and need at least a set of brushes. It may also just be held in by the stud.

        Good luck

Don't waste your time on a repair, the starter will fail again in short order, and the money you saved initially will be wasted on doing the job a second time, with the new starter you should have installed before!

John os absolutely right. It will fail in short order, but you can probably fix it enough to get by for the long weekend. :emoticonc
