here we go, i am thinking the pump partially locked up sending the impeller thru the hull and bending the drive shaft, also is there a good way to test the motor (bottom end) before doing these repairs ? is this worth repairing ? the motor appeared to run well, good power pretty smooth, as far as i could tell..

all help and advice is appreciated i only had this ski 4 days when this happened :(

thanks for all the help so far wetherby !

YOWZA!!!!!!!!!! you have some really fdup stuff going on there. it looks like your motor is sitting about 4 inches too far forward. grab hold of that thing by the pipe and see if you can rock it back and forth in the hull, you might have a blown motor mount or 4.. i can see 1 motor mount in the pics, but the motor aint attached to it. if that is the prop chewing thru the hull, and it looks like it is, you have a world of crap going on right now, the prop shouldn't be anywhere near that part of the hull. and what the heck is that life jacket oround the waterbox? theres no polaris part # for that. if you've only had the thing 4 days, i think you mighta got hosed :(

yeah id pretty much agree with ya there , bu ti think the motors goog , or it was at least.. and that life jacket, thas a special high perf aftermarket part, you cant get those anymore ! , lol i think it could still be a good ski, but.. im willing to listen to the pros here , if you think cut bait and sell the motor and title then hey thats what i might do, but otherwise i guess id like to try and repair this hopefully only needing a housing, impeller, pump and driveshaft.. the housing didnt rip out of the hull at least as u can see, and i should be able to patch that hole.. any other help?> thanks

        Eric,

It looks to me that the motor mounts gave way. Not the first time I've seen this on a surf riden Polaris. By my guess, the shaft did all the damage, not the impeller.

Pull the pump assembly off the ski and assess the body damage from the outside.

I'm guessing, if you want to keep the ski, 4 motormounts, a new shaft, and some glass work might be all you need. The motor should have faired pretty well. if the oil line didn't get pinched.

the long pump bolts are very stubborn , have everything else apart/out if the way just need to get in there and pull the impeller and driveshaft, they are soaking in pb blaster now, do i need to impact them out ? they seem to want to just twist, i got one to break loose but not the other 3

Sorry for the late reply, I was working on a ski just like yours.

The bolts are more than likely held in with loc-tite, so they will be a bit stubborn. Watch the threaded end as your taking them out, to make sure you don't break em.

well hows 3 out of 4 ? lol 1 broke, it wasnt comin out even used a hammer socket wrench to jar it loose, worked on 2 outa the last 3, i think i need everything drive behind the motor anyways, so no big deal, looks like ill need everything except the nozzle. bearings and seals were wrecked and i dont really know what im talkin about here.. lol but its pretty bad.. i am now heading out to the motor swap pages to figure out how to get this dang driveshaft disconnected ... will send some pics of the destruction, and hey at least i can get my money back off the engine, trailer and title/hull..and if nothing else, i am learning a lot even if i dont want to shell out the bucks to fix it.. what do you think a whole extended pump housing, vanes, impeller and all will cost from havasu ? oh btw is the wear ring made of metal ?

and hey the motor was so far forward i think it hit the gas tank, wild.. i wasnt even doing anything violent with the bike.. amazing, lucky to be alive i suppose..

Send pics, then we'll make an estimate from there. Honestly, if the motor is OK, you'll spend more time than money, and that ski is probably worth keeping.

Other than that, I wish you lived closer. I have an empty hull that engine would fit into nicely.

hte drive shaft actualy just pulls out of the pto coupler, altho, since you might have spun it ;) it will be a little hard to get out now that you have the pump off, grab the end of the shaft with a slidehammer/vise grip type of affair and yard it out of there. if that doesn't work, get out the sawzall and cut it at the couple. its not like your gonna mess it up anymore.

ive got a pump support housing and alum stator assy hanging around, and prolly the 4" extension.

cool, man i got it out using that method.. lol the engine was up into the gas tank, it went forward off the mounts about 5 inches , yikes, i will put up more pics , i broke one of the long bolts that holds the housing together and everything in there was pretty well thrahsed...lol , got the motor back where it belongs, that was fun.. i might be able to use some parts if you got em, ill tally up what need tomorrow....

I have him covered on the shaft, and looking for the housing. I have an SLT housing, and somewhere I have an SL housing.

Bruce, I think he's looking to get the stainless upgrade on the stator, but he'll still need the 4" wear ring extension.
