  • 95 SL650 5mph max at WOT

I took out my 95 sl650 after it had been sitting for a while, and once I got out of the no wake zone I was surprised to see that when I pinned the throttle, it went about 1 mph faster. I pulled it out of the water, to see if I could fix it and couldn't really find anything wrong. The plugs look fine, it's getting fuel to each carb. If anything the spark looks a little weak, but it was daytime. Before I took it out, I started it up at home, and one of the needles was sticking, so I pulled the carbs apart and went through them, I checked the reeds while I was there, and they're good. I just installed a 780 fuel pump. I disconnected the oil lines from the carbs and use premix. I checked the compression today, and they're all between 110 and 120. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    How many RPM is WOT?

If the rpm is correct, you have a driveline problem. (pump, impeller, etc.)

If rpm is low, you have an engine problem.

I have no tach on it to tell. Is there another way without installing one?
