stuck in limp mode?

my 96 slx flashed the warning light about 6 times when I first tried to start it , it finally started after a little bit . However it only gets up to 3400 rpm . Any ideas of what the codes are and how to reset if it does not do it on its own? Thanks for you help in advance

its either over heating or its low on oil or its low on fuel...............limp mode......................

I guess it could be a bad temp sensor , this is when I first go to ride for the day . the fuel was low so I filled it but still is stuck around 3700 rpms . Any ideas?

It doesnt put out a code, The rev limiter is on, overheat sensor, oil sender, low fuel , bad gauge

yes you can. i dont know what wire though.

persinally i'd fix the cause of it.

Disconnect the Gray wire from the cdi box.( its a bullet style connector )

thank you for your help . I disconnected the grey wire and the tried ran great . Ended up finding a faulty heat sensor . Runs like a top . 56 mph at 6250 rpm . Thanks !!!
