  • Rear piston failure

I got a 95 sl750 and it had a rear burned up piston. The guy told me that the carb was probably dirty. So I had the carbs cleaned and had a core exchange with SBT and got new pistons and cylinders. So its all rebuilt and put back together. But my question is do you think that was the problem? Bc I've been reading on different forums that when's the crank is out of index it could make it fail as well. Any input is appreciated. I'm just tired of putting money in it.

    Re: Rear piston failure

Most of the time if the front piston is the one with the hole in it then it is a fuel related issue. When the rear piston has a hole blown through it, then it is the crank is out of index.

It actuallt burnt on the side and not a hole straight through if that makes a difference?

Sounds more like a carb issue
