  • 95 SLX 780 won't run above 3600 rpm in water

Pulled the ski out of the shed, been sitting 3 plus years, put new battery, syphoned old gas out, put new gas in. Took it to the water, after 10 minutes of running old gas out of carbs. It picked up and ran like a new one. Had a little bit of idle problem, need to rebuild carbs. But other than that it ran great, no other problems. Brought it home, week and half later, put it water again, wouldn't run but 3600rpm. No matter what did. It is full of gas and oil. Checked fuel filters, all good, on trailer it'll do better than 6k rpm. Any suggestions

See if the exhaust hoses are damaged internally, if they are blistering on the inside then the hose is choking the engine out.

Checked the exhaust hoses, found nothing wrong, put it in the water today, did the same thing. Is there a manual reset for "limp mode". While it's running at the 3620rpm, it runs smooth, don't skip or sputter. It's running great it just won't turn the rpm's

timing may need advancing or there is an issue with the stater.

I brought this thing from Branson Mo to NE Alabama. There wouldn't be an altitude issue, would there?

You would have to check the part number on the impeller to see if its different from the sea level impeller, also jetting may have been changed if the impeller shows different.

I have a 94' SL 750 and it did the same thing. Would rev up fine to around 3400-3600 and then seem to bog and never rev up any higher or go fast. I rebuilt the carbs and made sure it had plenty of compression in the cylinders and new plugs. Found out that some of the reeds were cracked and broken. Put new reeds in it and it runs great now.
