• Hurricane info wanted

Hi, I ran across a 96 Polaris Hurricane for $2500 w/ 11 hrs on it. It is spotless. A friend had a Hurricane and I thought it was a fun machine. Are there any things I need to know about in terms of problems with Hurricanes that I need to know about? There was a stator update that has been done on this one. What is the horsepower output of the boat??? Thanks!!!

It has the 700 engine, I'm pretty sure it was 90 hp. It was rated higher than the other 700's because it had Ocean Pro flame arrestors stock. It cost a little over $6000 new.

Where did you find the Hurricane for $2500? I had my eye on one that was going for $2500 in SoCal but I have too may skis already. That's a good price. The Hurricane has 95 hp and the 96 did have a stator problem but it sounds like the one you are looking at has been updated. You can make that sucker scream by cutting 1" off the pipe and re-welding it.

Good to hear. I picked it up, and am looking for an extended ride plate. The only place even close to having one would be Chopper City Sports, and they would have to make up a single one since they have discontinued it.... Could get expensive... But my dad works in a machine shop and may be able to make one to the CCS specs. We'll have to see! About the pipe mods, I don't think I have the guts to cut it.... Any idea on where to get more info such as that????? Thanks for replying, it really does help a lot!

So did you get the one advertised in Ridgecrest, CA? Check out http://www.wetwolf.com . Bruce from Wetwolf has a Hurricane with a few goodies on it. He might be willing to share some secrets

HG, excellent choice of craft, the killer 'Cane is hard to ride fast, but well worth the challenge. You should get a set of Beach House Sponsons for it ( the ones designed for the HX) This will help keep the rear from sliding out in the corners. Cutting the pipe gives you a couple hundred RPM up top, If you want, I can fax you some drawings of what needs to be done. There are other things you should do first though. Like head, reeds, real carbs, Adjust-A-Thrust, pull the oil injection, waterbox, etc. If you need help, let me know. BTW even though it has had the stator update, you will still most likely need a stator in the future, Mine has only 130 hrs on it, and I am about to put my 3RD stator in. They have really had some problems with the domestic engine electronics, and can't seem to get it right. It would seem they are borrowing stuff from Sea-Doo.

Bruce, Will that pipe mod also work on a 97 SLT700? Can you fax me the drawings anyway? It never hurts to have good info just in case I ever end up with a Cane to add to my toy collection. BTW, I still have not messed with the triple pipes for my 780. I will be busting knuckles though come fall and I am determined to make those triples work

SL, I'm really bad about keeping fax numbers handy, so I need yours again. Pipe mod will work on the slt700. I sold my pipes to mike at rogue jets, he is going to be putting them on his practice boat.

                    SIZE DOES MATTER!!

Just a note to Mr Wet wolf. The stators on Polaris have had issues due to 2 major problems.

                      1. 97 flywheels were notorious for coming apart.

                      2. If your crank snout is not within .oo1, then you will get the early failure.
