  • Carb adjustment on 94 SL 650

I have gone thru the carbs and started trying to set the fuel mixture. I am have some trouble figuring out what I'm looking for. I started out out at 1+ turn (the approx. original setting) and got black/wet plugs. Too rich from the discriptions. So I am turning the low speed screws in. I have started w/ new plugs again because I can't read the black ones. Will they clean up as I lean out the mixture? I am now starting to see some brown around the insulator w/ black closer to the electrode, it all still seems a little wet. Am I close? Also the cylinders are not equally hot. #1 is hotter than 2 & 3 which both seem to be about the same. What does this mean?

    Thanks for the help.

It sounds like you are on the right track. Ye sthe plugs will clean up a little, but once you get really close you will need a new set to get a really accurate reading. All thee carbs will be slightly different, and if you have them all the same I'm not surprised they are running at slightly different temps right now.
