  • Problems with 2000 Virage TX

I just purchased a used 2000 Virage TX with 49 hours and had it out today for the first time and had a few problems. The first one is that when riding in rough water and anytime the ski goes in the air it makes an awful squealing noise, could this be a wear ring or pump bearings? Also after it runs for about fifteen minutes it seens to only run on one or two cylinders until I press reset on the MFI and then it will run fine for another fifteen minutes; is this the overheat indicator? Also the tach on the mfi doesn't work at all, where could I start looking to troubleshoot this? All help would be greatly appreciated.

I would suspect the pump bearings for your squealing sound. Pull your pump and impeller and check them out.

For your electrical problem - that's a new one to me. No it's not your overheat sensor - you can't reset it and you would hear a beeping. It may be a fualty MFD.

I just pulled the pump and impeller, what am I looking for to see if the bearings are bad? The impeller spins very smoothly. Also on the electrical poblem I noticed while riding the other day that the voltmeter never showed over 11.7 volts even when running although I never had a problem starting it, could this cause the MFD problems that I am having? I ordered a new battery today since this was still the original.

11.7 is a bit low, yes...for the bearings, you'll just need to carefully inspect them - make sure there are no rough spots - you may want to disassemble it to better inspect it.
