Did the 750 and 780 use the same crankcase?

NO they are not the same

92-93 650/750 part # 3240154 ($709.99)

94-95 SL/SLT 650-750 part # 3240187 ($729.99)

95-97 SLX/ SL/SLT 780 part # 3240246 ($ 699.99)

Difference is in case design and reed intake area. although the crankshaft may fit they do not perform the same (HP) :D
