    Question for those with experience. My carbs are original, never touched by a tech. The bike is a '95 SL750. I am having all sorts of fuel delivery problems. I figure the diaphrams in the carbs and fuel pump are shot. I have no problem replacing these. Here is my problem: How on earth do you get the carbs off. It looks as if each carb is mounted to the reed cover from underneath. Each reed cover has 2 bolts and 2 nuts holding it in place. The problem is that the fuel rail that ties all the carbs together is blocking access to most the bolts. So whats the trick?

    It pulled the carbs on my 95 SL750 back in 96 and don't remember it as being too difficult. Remove the flame arrestor and you have better access. A combo wrench did it for me. I left the carbs attached to the manifold and removed the whole carb rack including manifold from the case.

      Thanks. I found the nuts you where talking about. They sure didn't leave a lot of room for working on these things. Looks like a couple of busted knuckles and several cans of patience should do the trick. [img]/graemlins/winkanim.gif[/img]

        Remove airbox top, remove throttle and choke cable. Pop open gas cap to relieve pressure then pull fuel lines. you need a short 12mm combo wrench and have to reach around and under the carbs to get the box end on the nuts from underneath. the 1st time the carbs come off, it a pain in the butt. Polaris has threadlocker on there, and you just about have to remove them all the way the first time with a wrench. Once you get them off, clean the threads on the studs and the nuts very carefully. when they are good and clean, they will spin freely onto the stud and then thats all you will have to use the wrench for is final tightening.

        Oh yeah, it helps to have 2 elbows, per arm...

          Tip # 1

          The intake manifold's have 4 10 mm hex head bolts and 2 studs Remove the bottom 2 10mm hex head bolts on each cylinders intake manifold, This will now allow you to use a 1/4" drive 12mm socket and to get on the six nuts that holds the carbs down to the manifold. We have found this to be alot easier and faster than the wrench method. You should not have to remove the throttle cable from the intake manifold only remove it from the carb itself. Open the butterfly all the way open and remove the cable from the Cam. Same thing on the Choke cable :D Either way Wet wolf is right the first time you need two elbows [img]graemlins/cwm3.gif[/img] I also stock all the rebuild parts if you need them Call 260-637-7953
