99 slx no spark

i have a 99 slx and today while riding it lost its spark
all i did was pull up to the beach as normal, switch off then 15 minutes later went to start it and nothing!
was low on fuel so i topped it up, still nothing
checked spark and nothing there, pressed the reset button (whatever that does) and still no spark
i un connected the big multi plug just before the main electric box, sprayed some wd40 and tested , seemed to be a very weak spark
i then removed plug caps and tried,still a weak spark, then the spark would go
there is no water in the box whatsoever

any ideas???

I had a flakey lanyard switch that would cut out my ignition on me.... very frustrating... sat out on the water scratching my head why it wouldn't start but would turn over.

If you still dont have spark, it is possible the the CDI still thinks the engine is running.......

so try this.....locate the red/purple wire that comes off the CDI...pull the bullet connector apart....then working with the end that goes to the CDI....run a jumper wire to an orange terminal or directly to the battery, this will power the CDI all the time....this will eliminate any problems with the CDI and is a permanant fix and will not harm the craft. if this doesnt fix it the I would check out the coil or stator and it could possibly be the kill switch.
