I don't think it's crazy - probably not needed, but not crazy.

a hi volume pump will run around $50. i have an electric one with a regulator lying around. i probably should change my name to cheapskate.

I suppose as long as you get enough flow and the pressure is not too high, it should work. Make sure to plug the old impulse line(s).
