  • 89 SP constant buzzer

I have an 89 SP that has the buzzer warning constantly beeping. It does a faint type of on/off/on/off beep, though it never goes all the way off. On a volume scale: 10/5/10/5 etc....I was told this is the over heat sensor warning and that by removing the wire connector from the sensor on the top of the engine it should stop. It does not. The buzzer continues even if the ski is not running, cold or warm. Also, since this problem began, the ski sometimes does not rev up at all. I've been told this is a RPM limiter kicking in. Again, sometimes you can rev it up with no problem.

Questions: 1. Does the buzzer only reflect a message from the overheat sensor or is there another sensor that could be causing this? 2, Does the RPM limiter (if any) symptom have anything to do with buzzer?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Replace the thermo sensor in the head. That will stop the buzzer. No, the buzzer is not connected to the ignition or rev limiter in any way.

shouldn't the buzzer stop after unplugging the sensor?
      Thanks

Yes it should if it is not grounded, but if it is grounded, it will buzz until the battery goes dead.

OK, but the buzzer does not go on until the lanyard is plugged in. at that time the buzzer starts and runs even if the engine is not running, cold or warm and still if the sensor switch is unplugged. could it be grounded internaly somewhere? there is no visible wire damage anywhere externaly.

          thanks again

I guess so. It would have to be grounded to operate. Find the ground and you have found the problem.
