  • Stripped PTO

    Bill,
I did as you asked on the 1995 SPI that had the stripped out PTO which wasn't spinning the drive shaft. I took the PTO off replaced it with a spare I had and inspected the shaft and replaced the bumpers. The ski is back operational. I also grease it every time before use as you stated.

The shaft looked OK for now but I started looking on EBay to find a better one. I looked them up on the web which sells factory parts and I noticed that in 1994 the splines seemed to be in a straight line then in 1995 my splines look like they are straight but raised slightly around the middle torward the end of the shaft kinda like placing a quarter up against the splines which go into the pto it looks round. I was looking at a very scetchy diagrams so I thought I would ask the expert I could have not seen it correctly.

MY QUESTION: Can I put a 1994XP drive shaft fit into my 1995SPI if so do I need to change the PTO?

Were you able to find a new shaft? If so where at? I myself am looking for one because my PTO and shaft are stripped.

      Re: Stripped PTO

the shaft splines are curved a bit to allow for minor misalignment
(vibration etc.) I think if you saw a picture of one with straight splines
you were looking at a bad picture.

Did you look at the part numbers?

I think you can get a new shaft at this web site. http://216.37.204.206/alvertano/sead...p?Type=12&A=19

I myself am looking for a good used shaft since my shaft is still serviceable I have some time to look around.

        Thanks
        Joe

All of the 1988-1998 driveshafts have the same crowned splines and will work with any of the PTO's. No need to change anything other than the driveshaft itself.
