If it is a 1/4inch grey hose it goes to the fuel tank vent hose that has a Y in it with the other hose to a fitting up by the steering head and the third hose to the top of the gas tank.

I have a tank vent on the left as you are describing. I also have a plugged hole in the same spot on the right side. What's it for?

Battery vent? I have nothing there now but a plug. Should I put one back on?

If you have a stock wet battery, yes you need a vent line.

I traced the vent line from the battery and found it laying in the hull underneath the storage compartment. It appears to be missing the gromet and the hole is plugged on the outside of the hull. What if anything may be discharged through the vent? Vapors I'm sure. As long as there is no liquid discharged should I repair it or is it okay as is?

You NEED to repair the fitting and vent the HYDROGEN GAS to the outside as desined, otherwise you can blow up - litterally.
