  • wont run, any suggestions?

Here are the symptoms: (94 sea doo xp with oil block off (if that matters))
Been sitting for about 9 months while i repaired exhaust
Got it all back together and it would not run, pulled a plug for spark and turned it over I have spark but also had a shiatload of sludge that looked like oil come shootin out, did not really smell like oil or gas.
Pulled both plugs, throw a rag over the holes and pushed all the crud out.
Put plugs back in and it will fire but only run for a brief moment then die.
If i spray a starter fluid in it will continue to run.
Tank is full of fresh gas, it was almost empty before.
    Ran fine before exhaust broke

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

    Thank

sludge? Nasty. Get the cylinders cleaned out, and then put fresh plugs in it. God, if your cylinders are that nasty, then there's a really good possibility you need to rebuild the carbs. Was it *winterized* at all before you let it sit for 9 months?

Sounds like some leaky center seals in the cases. It probably won't keep running because as you fire it up, it sucks more sludge from the cases up into the clyinders and fouls the sparkplugs. After several attempts, it will clean out the sludge from the cases and continue to run if the carbs are working correctly, but don't be suprized if you find stuck needles and seats and maybe even a stuck diaphram or two in those carbs after sitting that long.

if the exhust leaked water in the motor your motor is prob rusty inside , if the motor is still ok stop using starting fluid your destroying it .

if you still have sluged commin out of the cyls then pull the head and inspect it to see if its worth messin with .

ok....checked out the cylinders, looked clean, shiny sides, no scratches. Pulled the carbs..looks fairly clean but i am not so hot in this dept with these carbs....different animal then on a bike. Is there a carb rebuild kit? anyone know the part #.

Ask for Mikuni 38-44 mmSBN rebuild kits, not "I" series kits. I have them at my shop, but I am not there until monday. 626 914 9509

k, i rebuilt the carbs, put it back together and the same thing happens, fires for a brief moment then dies, I give it a little gas, it revs higher when it starts then dies again. Will not run past the initial fire. Do the fuel lines feed from both sides, I have a feeling the rear line is not feeding based off the way the carb looked, not as wet as the front carb. ..any suggestions from the guru's?

              thanks

                Re: wont run, any suggestions?

no. the front carb crosses over to the rear carb through the hose on top between the carbs. first of all check for fuel flow restriction in the line from the tank all the way to the carbs. sometimes the fuel valve goes bad and restricts the fuel flow. disconnect the fuel supply line from the carb and verify an unrestricted flow from the tank. sounds like you have blockage.

I just have one small suggestion...NO STARTER FLUID! Your forcing a oil-injected engine to run w/o oil. But other than that I dont know anything. I am just counting my lucky stars that I aint the guy I say have his GTX blow up this weekend...leaking gas and boom! Lol not really funny but heck it was incredible.
