Ibought a 951 white motor from sbt a couple months ago and after 2 hours the base gasket blew due to the bolts not being torqued.anyway they sent me a new motor that was torqued correctly and it ran great. this weekend it blew again after 7 hours of use!! is there a problem with these motors or something im doing wrong?? im sure getting tired of changing this motor!! any help would be appreciated!!

I can't speculate until we see the 2nd engine - it may be our fault again, it may be somethign on your end - no one can guess.

What happened to your original engine and what repairs were made?

      Re: 951 base gasket problem????

the original engine ran good but had a noisey crank so i bought the rebuilt engine assembly from you guys... its weird that it ran so good and all of the sudden it just bogged down like a fouled plug, i opened the seat and saw oil and water mix on both ends of the motor(same place as the first one) and the gasket hanging out.... i talked to a ski doo tech and he said they use loctite anerobic sealer on the base gaskets to prevent this. your thoughts?????

Cranks don't get noisy without a cause. You may have other issues.

We use the same type of sealer on the base gaskets.

            Re: 951 base gasket problem????

base gaskets are better left dry , the white 951 had a smaller area for the gasket to seal on , that could couse the base to blow .

We find they seal much better on used cases applying a thin coating rather than applying dry.

                Re: 951 base gasket problem????

I had one of your white 951's do the same thing. The peices of the gasket that came out had a slipery silicone type sealer on it. The peice that came out was several inches long.
I also use the locktie 515 on base gaskets, very thin. It's there recommendation to stop base gasket leak problems.

i use no sealer on base gaskets and never had one pop out , if your going to use sealer then use a glue , locktight stays soft , you will never reuse a base gasket so glue them and you wont have any problems :-)

We use Permatex The Right Stuff, same as the case sealer.

                      Re: 951 base gasket problem????

Locktite 515 is anerobic, it hardens when you take the air away. The only part that stays soft is where it can get air unless you use there primer to harden it.
Bombardier recommends using a thin coating of 515. You can see it on many of there engines in the little holes that tell the thickness. Also if the case or cyl's are smooth thay recommend using an etching pencil to rough it up a bit so the sealer/gasket has something to grip onto. Thats the reason on later year engines they leave a bit of the machine marks.
On one of there snowmobile engines there was a bulletin to pull the cylinders etch them, put the Locktite 515, & a new base gasket.

No, it will be looked at as part of normal procedure, and you will get a diagnosis sheet back afterwards.
