  • Oil & filter brand GTX 4-TEC SC

I have just purchased my first ski, and have a service manual on order. Is anyone using any other oil & filter brands than Bombardier? Like Castrol 10w40 mineral? I read a champion part number from some other site for oil filter. Is this possible? I plan to do my own service and the Seadoo shop is not so convenient.

    Thanks

You read the champion part number on this web site

      http://server1.sbtontheweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13979

I searched the web, couldn't find it. It appears Champion makes filters for aircraft.

If anyone else finds it, please post it.

I'm new to Sea Doo's but own 4 waverunners... until recently I'd never heard of using "mineral oil" in a 2-cycle engine.... someone please enlighten me if I need to use a special oil for Sea Doo's but a different oil for Waverunners...I thought they were all the same.

I just bought 3 quarts of SD oil @ $5.46 each and a filter @ $9.47 which comes to $27.40 including tax.

The filter I swapped out said champion as well with ITALY stamped on it. Was also trying to find out direct source for the filter. Doesn't look too involved to produce.

Historically I've always used SD oil and haven't had an oil related failure (yet).

Others find alternate sources for lubes but when you really stop to think about it 30 bucks once or twice a year to keep the ski in good order isn't too bad - especially when you consider the fuel it goes through. I'll stick to the SD oil but would like to find a more cost effective filter.

I think what you are talking about is Sea Doo came out with a directive to only use Mineral Oil in a supercharged four stroke motor so the blower clutch won't slip.
When they first made supercharged motors, they had the synthetic oil in them and the clutches slipped. Now they say to replace that with mineral oil.

"Mineral oil" ( in their defination) is just plain old off the shelf 10W-40 motor oil.
